As a parent, how would you feel if your child said: “I want to be a hacker when I grow up”. Would you cringe at the thought? Don’t worry, there’s no judgement if you do cringe because most parents worry – that’s what parents do. But, we shouldn’t be worried according to Logan LaPlante – a young TEDx speaker. See his video for yourself. He is one amazing kid and he has some grown up insights on how to be happy.

Hackschooling makes me happy by Logan LaPlante | TEDx University of Nevada

My Favorite Points on How to be Happy

Logan is Studying the Science of Being Happy and Healthy. He mentioned that we all need to practice these 8 things:

  1. Exercise
  2. Diet and Nutrition
  3. Time in Nature
  4. Contribution and Service
  5. Relationships
  6. Recreation
  7. Relaxation and Stress Management
  8. Religious and Spiritual

These are from Dr. Roger Walsh, and he calls them Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes or TLC. These 8 aspects of life are also included in Logan LaPlante’s Hackschooling along with:

  • Creativity: Hacker Mindset
  • Technology and online resources
  • Experiential classes and camps

In case you didn’t finish the video, Hackschooling (Hacking School) is a way in which Logan learns. There’s no set curriculum as it is not a system. It is more of a mindset.
This means that even traditional schools can adapt it. Kids learn what they want to learn. Kids learn subjects that they’re interested in and, most importantly, Hackschooling teaches kids how to be happy.
